Private Spaceflights

SpaceShipOne, a privately built spacecraft, made its first successful flight into space on September 30. This was the first part of a three-pronged effort to win a $1o million prize. This is history in action, folks. I love it, because it showcases what individuals can do without government intervention, and it somewhat removes the power of space travel from government exclusivity.

In a related story, the UK's Virgin Spaceflights has plans for providing space tours to those with enough cash for a ticket (almost $199,000 a head).

Gosh, I hope they have a discount day, or something. Maybe only charge $190,000, or thereabouts. That's a bargain, but $199,000 is too rich for my blood!
